How is x360Key?

TA, one of the founders and maindeveloper of the WODE Modchip quit his work on the WODE Project last year to be a part of the legendary Wiikey team and create a new project called x360key, an Xbox 360 drive emulator which allows you to load legal backups from an usb device.

 

X360Key Drive Emulation?

x360key is 2nd generation Optical Drive emulation tech with a brand new Emulation Engine (x360 is very different to Wii, from the hardware interface to the drive commands). We took all the experience from designing Wode and started again from the ground up to bring you the 2nd generation of ODD emulation technology on the xbox 360 console.

 

Why you add the DVDKey Extraction Method from Maximus? - Some commands the console sends, and reponses from the drive are encrypted, we need the key to be able to communicate with the console. Automatic DVD Key extraction will be added later thx to the deal with Maximus to use their key extraction methods.
In x360key software v1.00 you have to add the dvdkey manually into a txt file on the sd card.

 

 

x360Key offers two modes?

Yes, it offers two modes – Passthru amd Emulation. In Passthru the x360key is switched off, in Emulation, well, I think you saw the video?

 

X360key will can running with all games?

The emulation code for 1.00 is complete now and we are testing like crazy for a release at the end of June. AP25 is working and we expect xgd3 will be working in V1.00 to – but that still needs testing. At the momment, all tested games are working perfectly (including games with AP25), but not all released games have been tested by us, this is the reason why we state “most xbox 360 and xbox 1 games supported”, when we have tested all of them (and this may take a while) then we will let you know that x360key is 100% compatible.
NOTE: Only supported xbox 1 games a working due to the xbox 360 emulation routine for xbox 1 games, so where is no possiblity to let all Xbox 1 games work.

 

Is game-dumping possible with x360key?

It isnt possible to read the whole disc with a stock drive (part of the security sector for example), so for now we recommend that you dump your games directly with an 0800 flashed (thx C4Eva) xbox 360 or a kreon dvd-rom drive.

New Xbox360 Slim Motherboard: ‘Corona’

Looks like Microsoft released a new Xbox360 Slim motherboard codename ‘Corona’.


This new motherboard was found in a Forza 4 250 Go Pack with black matte finish, a Liteon 1071 ODD and 2011-08-17 MFR. The PSU goes from 10.83A (for the orginal ‘Trinity’ Slim motherboard) to 9.86A.
The biggest change it that it looks like the HANA chip is “gone”. It is suggested the HANA and SouthBridge have been put together into 1 chip on this new motherboard. This could have (serious) implications for the Reset Glitch Hack (RGH) as it was using the HANA chip for the timing management (but there might be alternatives). But at this time it’s too early to tell. However it is (very) unlikely this is a answer from MS to the RGH … what  New Xbox360 Slim Motherboard: ‘Corona’ releasd time ? a motherboard revision takes months of preparation and this motherboard was manufactured before the RGH was even released.

xbox360 drive key extraction

You need to use the Jungle flash(Hereinafter referred to as JF) to read the “dummy.bin”in Slim DVD, the following is the instruction:

 

Take out the Slim driver and connect with X360USB PRO and provide power for driver, here we provide power for the driver with power board we made, and it’s ok for you to provide power with XBOX360 console.

 

Start JF to select DVDKey 32. You need to make sure you have captured Slim driver model. “F/W Rev： 0225″is shown and it means the driver has been captured and click”SlimKey”

There are five files in total, and you don’t need to save the first four files, to save the “Dummy.bin”is enough.

While we take every care to accurately emulate the XBox’s drive we do not recommend using X360key with XBL at launch. Shortly after launch we will release updates that address this.

 

Also, plenty of people have been banned while using CFW and there are still issues even with the latest iXtreme. For example, in order to pass the new Slim FW checks a lot of data has to be swapped around (C4E’s so called ‘rootkit’). This takes time and the checks take a lot longer to perform than they would on a stock drive. In the worst case it takes CFW takes 5 times longer to perform the check (15 seconds instead of 2-3). If MS have noticed this then it is quite possible that every Slim owner using CFW has already been marked for a ban.

 

 

By comparison X360key features a powerful ARM9 CPU that can perform the FW checks *faster* than the real drive running stock FW. We have the horsepower & the storage capacity to handle anything the future brings.

 

Q – How will the new XGD3 disc format (eg. Halo Reach) be handled by x360Key, any special backup considerations?

We do not anticipate any problems with XGD3, game ISOs are stored on HDD and are not limited by the capacity of a DL DVDR. X360key supports any number of HDDs upto 2 TB in size.

 

Q – Regarding backups in general, most gamers use abgx360 to verify their backup ISO images, is that still recommended with x360Key?

abgx360 verifies that the ISO is an accurate backup of a game disk. Whether an ISO is burned to a disk or used by X360key it must be an accurate backup. For this reason gamers should continue to abgx360 to verify their ISOs.

 

Q – Besides official updates, are there any features of the x360Key that will be open for the user to customize?

We have no plans at this time.

 

Q – For lazy guys like me, will there be any possibility to select games from the comfort of a sofa?

Is X360key worth the wait and buying?

The current updates which are still in the beta status work better than those which are for products that are already on the market. For those of you who kept up the long wait can now look forward to features that weren’t even announced. Apart from the XGD3 and AP 2.5 support, you are also able to use Xbox Live thanks to a hardware which is more adjustable than a hacked firmware that can only be software wise implemented.

How to update X360Key

It’s fairly easy to update the xK3y. You simply take the rootfs (the linux root file system), uImage (the linux kernel plus InitRamFS) and copy both files onto the USB drive.
Once you turn on your Xbox 360, both files (footfs & uImage) will be copied onto the microSD card inside the xK3y.
The xK3y checks the files first before anything gets transfered onto the microSD card to see if there have been any changes made at all.
In case something goes wrong, like a power shortage on your 360, you can still recover the firmware on the microSD card, with the software on your PC.
FPGA updates are also applied via a USB drive. FPGA updates add new hardware functions to the xK3y. To update it, you need a file called “FPGA.VME (upper or lower case shouldn’t be of importance).
An FPGA update takes around 50-60 seconds. Whatever you update, you have to restart your Xbox 360 to make sure the xK3y makes use othe update and work correctly.
I never had to use the recovery mode during those 3 firmware updates that I installed about 3 million times, in order to kill that thing.
Downgrading is also possible, since (as said before) the xK3y checks the update files for the differences, so a downgrade isn’t a problem.

 

Coming features/ support:


We’ve covered the update function above and there’ll be several new features coming, not only for the interface itself, but also for the FPGA.
Some of you might know it alreaady, but we still want to mention a few here, since they are already worked on right now and are definitely interesting.

 

 

Xbox Live: The xK3y does currently work with Xbo Live and the chance that the xK3y is more secure than a hacked drive firmware is also given.

 

Like I said above, a firmware with a rootkit like LT+ is great and works fine, but can never reach the complexity of a hardware/software solution.

 

I’m not saying that the iXtreme LT+ firmware is bad, but it will never be as safe as the xK3y and we’ve seen such a scenario once in the past and that is not going to change, no matter what somebody tells you, the logic is on the side of the drive emulators and this logic lies inside the CPUs of the ODDEs.

 

The xK3y can be perfectly adjusted to the drive and can represent a real drive without problems.

 

Of course there is no guarantee for a 100% secure Xbox Live solution, but an optical disc drive emulator gives you more adaptability without the restrictions of a 256 KB flashmemory.

 

 

KeyDump Feature: The xK3y will be able to dump the drive key on its own and copy it onto the SD card, so that the purchase of additional hardware becomes obsolete.

 

This feature should be the most interesting one for a lot. Nothing is known right now but the Maximus Lizard technology that got licensed to do this task. Even if the Maximus and Team Xecuter products can be recommended, for an one time use on the other hand, it’s definitely not worth it.

 

 

Ripping Feature: The ripping feature is for a lot as interesting as the key dump feature, since you won’t need an additional drive (Samsung drive with Kreon firmware or Xbox 360 drive with 0800 firmware) to backup your games.

 

This feature is going to be more complex, since all files during the procedure need to match, so we have to wait and see how this turns outo n the xK3y without a 0800 firmware.

 

The coder of the xK3y was definitely on the right path with the WODE and showed us what a modchip can do. So the chance that the pulls it off again on the xK3y is high.

 

 

WLAN Feature: A lot of you are going to enjoy this feature, as you’ll be able to control the xK3y via a web browser or a possible iPhone / Andorid app or whatever they come up with.

 

Only the xK3y guys know exactly what will happen, so we can be wound up to a high pitch.

 

 

Multi Language Support: The xK3ys interface will soon be translated in several languages. We will take care of the german translation, so for the people who are overwhelmed with the english interface, will soon enjoy the xK3y in their native language.

 

Not the greatest feature, but definitely customer friendly.

 

 

If the support turns out to be as big as promised, we’ll have a great time with the xK3y.
